A new brochure released by the State Planning Commission outlines how the state’s planning system is responding to the challenges and opportunities of climate change.

Addressing climate change means taking action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and building the resilience of South Australia’s regions, cities, towns and communities.

Planning and Land Use Services and the State Planning Commission are working to embed climate change considerations across South Australia’s planning policies and procedures, based on the best available climate science and research.

Planning for Climate Change (PDF, 11242 KB) outlines how the planning system can respond to climate change risks, and the specific planning projects the state has implemented and planned to address climate change challenges and take advantage of climate-related opportunities.

Planning and Land Use Services Executive Director Sally Smith says the planning system can help build a state that is more resilient to the impacts of climate change.

“Planning for the future requires considering the future climate and Planning for Climate Change tells the story of how our planning system is working to reduce climate change impacts,” said Sally.

“We will continue to work with Federal, state and local governments, industry and the community, including the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands and waters of South Australia, to collaborate on planning ideas and solutions that can influence and respond to climate change.”
